What we do to support our library
Annual Book Sale
This is by far our biggest activity, selling books that have been donated by the community, with the proceeds going to the new library building fund.
This year, the sale will be at the Plaza on October 2nd and 3rd. Dont miss it.
Summer Reading Club support
The Friends provide the incentive prizes and Grand Prizes for all three reading club levels, as well as the refreshments that are served at special events such as Teddy Bear picnic, magician visits, and the prize party. The Friends also make possible the publication of the brochures and fliers associated with Summer Reading Club.
Blueberry Arts Festival
We have an information booth at the festival and give away a basket of books.
Winter Arts Faire
We have an information booth at the faire.
National Library Week activities
The Friends provide the prizes for Library Lotto.
Library Special Requests
We help the library with special purchases, subscriptiong and activities that would not otherwise be available.
Listen Alaska Audiobooks
These are free to library patrons, and also downloadable.
Teen Advisory Group support
The Friends provide refreshments for TAG meetings, film nights, poetry readings and other special events.
Born to Read
The Friends help to provide funds to purchase board books and t-shirts for newborns at the Ketchikan General Hospital to promote early literacy.
Visiting Author support
The Friends help provide travel funds to host nationally-known authors, as well as refreshments for the author presentations.
