Who we are and what we are about
The organization
The Friends of the Ketchikan Library is a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization.
Friends know that our community needs and benefits from a first-rate library. Friends are interested in promoting the library by improving its services, resources and community role. Friends care about libraries.
Our goal is to establish closer relations between the Ketchikan Public Library and the people it serves; to aid, promote, develop and advance the operation of the Library; and to support and cooperate with the Library in developing community library services.
We are also actively involved in advocating for a new building, necessary to meet the demands of our community, compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, and to upgrade space to meet modern collection needs.
Funds come from membership dues, gifts, endowments, memorials, the annual book sale, and the library book sale cart. Money is used for Friends' projects and for library needs outside the regular budget allowance.
